How Jesus Saved Me
I had the tremendous blessing of growing up in a family that loved & followed Jesus. Some of my earliest memories as a child are times spent reading the Bible & praying together around the dinner table. My family wasn’t perfect, but they intentionally nurtured my love for Jesus & my desire to serve him. While attending graduate school in 1992, my wife Cindy & I began to help out in our church’s new College & Career group. It was a blast to be a part of, but it also gave me the opportunity to lead & teach the Bible. From the very first time I taught from the Bible I knew that this is what God wanted me to devote my life to. And as they say, the rest is history. Even after all this time, I can honestly say that my passion for communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ still burns white-hot. There is nothing that I’d rather be a part of than a body of believers who study God’s Word, pray God’s Word, sing from God’s Word… all because they love Jesus Christ & want to follow him & spread his fame for the rest of their days.
What I Do For Trinity
I have the tremendous privilege to lead Trinity Church each week through God’s continuously relevant, authoritative & life-changing Word. My main calling is to help people to see & to treasure the beauty & glory of God in the gospel of His Son, Jesus Christ. This takes place more formally during our worship services & leadership meetings, but it also happens informally, as I meet with individuals, couples, & families as they seek to live out the gospel in their lives. Aside from leading & preaching, I get to work alongside a great staff of Jesus-loving people with delightfully eclectic personalities, wide range of biblical gifts & a great willingness to laugh. What draws us all together is Jesus Christ – his gospel, his mission & his Church.
What I Do Outside Trinity
Love to read! Science-fiction & fantasy (anything like Tolkien), world history, Reformed theology, & good biographies… Old-school, hard-core weightlifting… drinking & savoring excellent coffee… listening to a wide range of music… Watching college sports… Cheering on Chicago sports teams (except the Cubs), spending time with my wife & going to as many kids activities as humanly possible! …Did I mention that I love coffee?
